In an inspiring event that showcased the power of storytelling and social responsibility, Educada partnered with the Pulitzer Center to bring award-winning author and journalist Esha Chhabra to the students of Riverview Middle School and ACE Charter High School. Over 500 eager students and educators gathered to listen to Ms. Chhabra speak about her mission to highlight the positive impact of business in the regenerative era. She shared stories from her compelling book, “Working to Restore,” which delves into the intersection of business, sustainability, and community.

Chhabra’s book highlights the stories of companies making a difference in society by integrating sustainable practices and being environmentally conscious. Students were captivated as she discussed how businesses can minimize their carbon footprints while still providing products that resonate with consumers. One shining example she shared was Veja shoes, a brand that has redefined the relationship between fashion and environmental responsibility.

Esha Chhabra’s journey took her deep into the Amazon rainforest, where she followed the founders of Veja to witness firsthand the ethical harvesting of rubber. This immersive experience allowed her to uncover how Veja not only prioritizes sustainable sourcing but also gives back to the communities involved in their production. By marrying design with environmental consciousness, Veja exemplifies how businesses can thrive while contributing positively to the world.

This impactful visit was made possible by Principal Scott Bates, who connected with Educada’s director Caden Choi at a conference for rural school districts. High school English teacher and author Aaron Gasky played an essential role in coordinating Ms. Chhabra’s visit, bringing this unique opportunity to life for the students.

The event was not just a lecture; it was a call to action for the next generation of leaders. Students left the auditorium inspired, armed with knowledge about how they can contribute to a sustainable future in their own lives. Ms. Chhabra’s message resonated, reminding everyone that the choices we make today will echo in the world of tomorrow.

The collaboration between Educada and the Pulitzer Center, along with the engaging insights from Esha Chhabra, has paved the way for meaningful discussions about sustainability, corporate responsibility, and the importance of giving back. It’s a partnership that has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the students who attended.
